A minute to get set up
Install. Select. Record.
This download is for Apple silicon Macs (M1 or later), running macOS 15 or later. Intel Macs are not supported by this release. Check Apple menu → About This Mac if you’re unsure.
This release is not notarised by Apple and does not have a Developer ID signature. macOS may block its first launch. You’ll need to approve it in Privacy & Security. Some work or school Macs don’t allow this; check with your administrator before buying.
Install the app
- Download the ZIP from your payment confirmation page and double-click it to extract it.
- Drag Clip This Bit.app into your Applications folder.
- Open it from Applications. If macOS blocks it, close the warning.
- Open System Settings → Privacy & Security, scroll to the security message for Clip This Bit and click Open Anyway.
- Authenticate if asked, then confirm Open. A four-corner icon with a dot appears in your menu bar.
Only approve the app you downloaded from your Clip This Bit purchase. If macOS specifically reports malware or a damaged app, stop and contact us. See Apple’s explanation of these messages.
Make your first clip
- Click the menu-bar icon and choose Record Area, or press ⌥⌘R.
- When asked, allow Clip This Bit in Privacy & Security → Screen & System Audio Recording. Quit and reopen the app if macOS asks you to.
- Drag around the area you want, then click Record.
- Stop with the floating control, the menu, or ⌥⌘R. The menu-bar mark turns red and shows REC while recording.
- Trim the ends in the preview. Choose Copy File and paste the MP4 into WhatsApp or another app that accepts video files.
To add your voice, turn Microphone on in the menu and allow microphone access when asked. System audio is off. The app runs in the menu bar, without a normal Dock icon.
Keep your download handy
Bookmark your payment confirmation page to download version 1 again. Your Stripe receipt is proof of purchase. If you need help with a missing download, contact Fairtime with your receipt; never send card details.
